Excursions starting from Hvar

St. Stephen's Cathedral

The cathedral with its bell tower is located on the town square. The church was built in the 16th-18th centuries on the site of an earlier cathedral destroyed by the Turks. Inside there are numerous Baroque altars by Venetian masters.

Franciscan Convent

It was built as a refuge for sailors in the 15th century. Inside there is a museum full of Greek, Roman and Venetian coins, an atlas by Ptolemy and the famous painting of the last supper of the 15th-17th century measuring 2x8 meters.

Theater of Hvar

Built above the Arsenal by the Venetian duke P. Semitecolo in 1612, it was the first theater open to the bourgeoisie in Europe. ZVIR (the Beast) which was on the prow of the galley S. Gerolamo in the battle of Lepanto 1571 is exhibited at the entrance.

Spanish fortress

The fortress was built in the 16th century under the Venetian rule. Today it houses a collection of amphorae and finds from ancient times. In addition to the charm of its architecture, from the fortress you can enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view

Arsenal

The Hvar Arsenal was built under the rule of Venice in the early 1300s, as a shipyard for galleys. Restored in 1611 during the rule of Prince Pietro Semitecolo, today it houses an interesting museum.

Palace Elizabeth

Built as Duke's Palace by the Venetians in the 13th century, it was restored and converted into an hotel by the Viennese architect B. Schwarz thanks to the contribution of Princess Elizabeth called '' Sissi '' to whom it owes its name.
